Job description:
APIC is a development stage company integrating photonics with CMOS VLSI using its proprietary technology centered in Culver City office. The company has extensive research collaboration with major universities on the west coast of the United States. The product being developed will offer order of magnitude higher performance over the existing electronic systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for design/simulation to predict the performance of photonic elements used to build silicon photonic links to predict the performance of the complete electrical-optical-electrical systems. For example, the silicon photonic elements include transmitters and receivers for on-wafer waveguides based data transmission. These photonic elements are interfaced to CMOS circuits for receiving the stimulus modulating the optical signal and delivering the signal to drive the amplifiers. This position will be responsible for developing silicon photonics components, and photonic integrated circuits (PIC) to support next-generation data communications and optical network applications. The responsibility spans from concept design, modeling & simulation to layout, and product testing. The candidate is expected to be responsible for product level layout and improve the efficiency of tape-out process.
The position could be a junior or senior role depending on the candidate’s qualification.
Additional Requirements:
The successful candidate will be expected to have a strong background in physics of semiconductor and photonic devices, including optical phenomenon in semiconductors and operation of those devices at high frequencies. Hands-on experience in modeling of semiconductor and optical devices is essential.
Knowledge of “Lumerical” PIC Design, modeling and tape out is preferred. Experience in device modeling for circuit simulators such as HSPICE will be preferred. Good work ethics, team work, and presentation and communication skills will be necessary.
The candidate must be a US citizen.
Education:
Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering with emphasis on semiconductor devises and silicon photonics.
Experience:
Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering with 3-5 years of experience. Fresh Ph.D. candidates with experience in the area of photonics will also be considered.
Work Location:
Culver City, California or an as yet to be determined office in the Silicon Valley area.
Job Type:
Full-Time and in person
